PSA: Walk your dog!

Not only do you physically exhaust your dog but the exposure to the sights, sounds, and smells mentally exhausts them.

There is a saying in the dog training industry... a tired dog is a happy dog!

Off-Leash walking is the goal for many dog owners but usually abandoned too early on. Here's the key factors to work on with your dog to get that perfect Off-Leash walk.

1) Master a loose-leash walk

This will give your dog the expectation on how to follow along with you.

2) Master impulse control exercises

This will help your dog control its own curiosity and only leave your side with permission.

3) Master Recall and Basic Obedience

Come, Sit, Down, and Stay will give you the control you need off-leash.

4) Trust

Your dog will need to know you trust them. Any off-leash walking must be done with confidence so your dog knows you are still in control.

Let us know if you have any questions and we can dig deeper on it on following posts!

Happy Training!

If you aren’t paying attention to your dog’s body language you are missing out on a whole set of cues. 😱

1. Facial expressions
When a dog is happy, their eyes will appear relaxed, and their mouth will be open and slightly curved upward. Their ears will be in a neutral position. When fearful, a dog's eyes may appear wide, with the whites showing, and their ears will be pinned back against their head. In an aggressive state, a dog may have a hard stare, furrowed brow, and bared teeth.

2. Tail wagging
While tail wagging is often associated with happiness, it can also convey other emotions. The height, speed, and direction of the wag all provide clues about your dog's emotional state. A high wag may indicate arousal or aggression, while a low, slow wag may signal fear or submission. A loose, sweeping wag typically signifies a relaxed and content dog.

3. Posture
A confident dog will stand tall with their head and tail held high, displaying an assertive, self-assured demeanor. A fearful or submissive dog may crouch, lower their head, and tuck their tail between their legs, making themselves appear smaller and less threatening. An aggressive dog may stien their body, lean forward, and raise the fur along their back to appear larger and more intimidating.

Hello, Snipverse! 🐕

Today, let's dive into the world of dog vocalizations. Understanding your dog's vocal cues can help you communicate more effectively and enhance your training. 🏡🐾

1️⃣ Barking: Dogs bark for various reasons, such as alerting, excitement, fear, or boredom. Pay attention to the pitch, duration, and context of the bark to determine its purpose. 🐕🗯️

2️⃣ Whining: Whining can signal discomfort, anxiety, or a desire for attention. Observe your dog's body language and the situation to identify the cause of the whining. 🐶🎻

3️⃣ Growling: Growling can indicate fear, aggression, or playfulness. It's essential to assess the context and observe accompanying body language to understand the growl's intent. 🐾😠

4️⃣ Howling: Howling is a form of long-distance communication and can be triggered by loneliness, excitement, or environmental sounds. It can also be a way for your dog to express their natural instincts. 🌕🐺

5️⃣ Sighing and Groaning: These vocalizations often signify contentment and relaxation when accompanied by relaxed body language. However, they can also indicate discomfort or pain if your dog appears tense or uneasy. 😌🐕

We're here to support you and your dog, as always feel free to ask any questions.

Happy Training!
